Choose Word Meaning

Learn how you learn specific words meanings in Wöör

In Wöör, every word you collect is tied to a specific meaning — not just the word itself. This helps you focus on the exact way a word is used in context, which is especially important when a word has multiple meanings like “ring”“charge”, or “case”.

Why word meanings matter

Many English words have several meanings. For example:

  • “charge” can mean a price, an accusation, or to power a device
  • “case” can mean a legal matter, a container, or an example

In Wöör, you choose the meaning you want to learn — so your exercises, reviews, and examples match what you’re actually trying to remember.

Choose meaning to learn

You can choose a word's meaning when adding it or update the meaning for words already in your vocabulary.

Why this matters

Focusing on a word’s meaning — not just the word — helps you:

  • Avoid confusion with similar or multi-use words
  • Learn the exact usage relevant to your work, exam, or topic
  • Build accurate, meaningful vocabulary knowledge
  • Get exercises that match your learning goal

This is especially useful for learners building professional vocabulary, like legal, medical, or technical terms, where precision matters.

How Wöör’s approach is different

  • Wöör: You select the exact meaning when saving the word — no guessing later. Exercises are built around that meaning.
  • Anki & Quizlet: You enter the meaning manually. The app doesn’t check or guide you.
  • Vocabulary: Shows general meanings but doesn’t let you choose or focus on one.
  • WordUp: Focuses on word meanings in context, with real-life videos and examples; meaning selection is automatic, not user-controlled.
